(WHTM) — Governor Josh Shapiro's administration has approved SEPTA's request to use up to $394 million in capital assistance funds for daily operations for the next two years.

The Governor's Office says Shapiro directed Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Mike Carroll to approve the request to preserve SEPTA's services and avoid impending service cuts.

The approval will allow SEPTA to provide essential transportation services ahead of numerous significant events, including America’s 250th anniversary, the FIFA World Cup, and the MLB All-Star Game, the Governor's Office said.
