Ontario’s police watchdog says it’s investigating the death of a man who was tasered and handcuffed by Toronto police officers on Sunday.

The Special Investigations Unit says officers responded to a house in the area of Keele Street and Finch Avenue West in North York at around 5:40 p.m.

The SIU says the officers who arrived were involved in a physical altercation with a male resident of the home.

The watchdog says the officers discharged a “conducted energy weapon” at the man.

Investigators say the man was handcuffed and he went into medical distress.

The SIU says the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
