OTTAWA — An Ottawa man has received a ten-year prison sentence for promoting hate propaganda linked to the neo-Nazi group Atomwaffen Division. Superior Court Justice Robert Smith found Patrick Gordon MacDonald guilty on three charges: promoting hate speech, participating in the activities of a terrorist group, and facilitating terrorist activities.

MacDonald, a graphic designer in his late 20s, pleaded not guilty to the charges. During the trial, Crown prosecutors presented evidence that he operated under the alias "Dark Foreigner". They argued that he aimed to incite hatred against Jewish people and other minorities, seeking to provoke a race war.

Prosecutors connected MacDonald to the production of several violent videos filled with hate and the creation of Nazi-themed images. Police seized multimedia equipment, along with his phone and banking records, as part of the investigation.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) described this case as the first in Canada where an individual faced charges for both terrorism and hate propaganda offenses related to promoting a violent, far-right ideology.
