BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Work is underway on a new art project in Downtown Bangor.

A cement retaining wall along Broadway near Family Dollar and All Souls Church is transforming into multiple murals. The work will feature native birds in their natural habitats.

Organizers will also be adding native trees and other plants to the grounds around the murals.

Bangor Beautiful and Maine Audubon are joining forces for the project. The organizations say North America has lost three billion birds since 1970, largely due to habitat loss.
