TOWANDA, PA (WENY) -- The Bradford County Sheriff's Office is warning of phone scams after receiving reports that scammers are targeting members of the community.
The sheriff's office said scammers are pretending to be deputies or officials connected to the sheriff's office and demanding payments over the phone. The sheriff's office said the scammers are demanding payment in the form of gift cards, Cash App or Venmo payments -- among other electronic methods.
The sheriff's office said real deputies or officials would never request payment over the phone, and they would never ask for any payment in the form of gift cards, Venmo, Cash App payments etc.
If you receive a call like this, you should hang up immediately.
