“Charity begins at home” is an age old and familiar adage. In our modern times charity is more of a universal mission and pleas for help can be from anywhere across the globe. In the early days of Norwood and other settlements like it however, the only place charity could come from was from home and anyone down on their luck for whatever reason could generally depend on a little help from their community. Norwood and by extension Asphodel Township are traditionally generous in their support of their residents. Organizations and local service clubs such as the Lions have a mandate to serve; besides major community betterment projects they continue to quietly help those in need, with such things as cash gifts to help fire victims, a toy drive at Christmas and others .
