Over six days, community members in Kingston will have the opportunity to learn more about the recently passed Bill 5.

Formally known as the “Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025” , the bill allows the provincial government to create “special economic zones” to fast-track projects.

Kingston City Council has already voiced its opposition to portions of Bill 5 that affect the environment.

It has also faced strong opposition from Indigenous people who fear it will remove the influence that First Nations have on resource developments.

In response to Bill 5, Kingston resident Mara Shaw, along with other concerned citizens, invited members from Treaty 9 to Kingston from Sept. 25 to 30 to speak more about the impacts of the legislation.
