MADISON, Wis. (Northern News Now) - The Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) shares a message for potential car buyers amid heavy rain throughout the region.
The DMV encourages anyone pursuing a used car purchase to check for any flood damage before buying the vehicle.
It said the damage may not appear until months after the rain and water can cause serious mechanical and electrical issues that affect its overall safety.
According to the department, dealers must clearly disclose of any flood damage on a vehicle they are selling.
Signs of flood damage include water stains, discoloration or mud in the engine, trunk areas, or the interior, including under the carpet and hard-to-reach areas.
The DMV encourages getting a vehicle history report from providers such as Carfax or AutoC
