Top Indianapolis City-County Council Republicans and some of the more left-leaning council Democrats are taking a stand against AES Indiana's plan to increase residential electricity prices by more than 13% by 2027.
The bipartisan backlash may be a sign that the rate increase, which AES says will add more than $20 to the typical household's monthly bill, isn't a done deal. Republicans' growing concerns about high utility costs mean that Indiana's dominant political party could take action to stop such increases.
