CLEVELAND, Ohio — When Yacht Rock Revue first started, it was meant to be a one-night stand.
“We were all doing different stuff in Atlanta,” recalled frontman Nick Niespodziani in an interview with Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer earlier this summer.
“We came together to do a one-off show of one-hit wonders from the ‘70s. Our drummer had this ‘dentist office mixtape’ and we thought—why not? The first show sold out, then the next one and the next one. Suddenly the club owner said, ‘You need to do this every Thursday.’ I didn’t think it was a good idea, but we did it anyway and it just grew from there.”
