EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry presented her proposed 2026 budget to the Evansville City Council on Tuesday, focusing on maintaining core city services amid new fiscal challenges from state tax policy changes.

The Council plans to review the $140.2 million budget in public meetings on September 22 and October 6.

"Budgets are about values," Terry said. "This budget reflects what we hear consistently from our residents: Take care of the basics. Roads. Safety. Housing. Parks. And make government work better for the people we serve."

The proposed budget includes a growth of 1.6% over the previous fiscal year, supporting public safety, infrastructure, housing, and government services. It aims to honor union contracts and adjust for rising costs.
