NEWBURGH, Ind. (WEVV) — Fall sports in Warrick County have been disrupted due to a weekend fire at PBTT, causing concerns over air safety and impacting local athletic fields.
Baseball, softball, and soccer games in Newburgh have been put on hold as smoke and chemical concerns led to the shutdown of fields near the fire site.
Sophia Martin, a student, expressed her initial alarm upon seeing updates from friends.
"Well, I saw it on a few of my friends' Snapchat stories and they were like oh my gosh, we have to stay inside don’t leave and that was a little nerve-racking," Martin said.
While she has not noticed ash by the riverfront, some residents have voiced confusion and uncertainty about the air quality and whether it's safe to be outside.
