OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- The new Donald Gardner Stadium in Opelousas is set to host its first football game on Oct. 10, marking a significant milestone for the community.
The stadium, which is approximately 80% complete, will be ready in time for Opelousas High School's homecoming game. The turf field is already finished, and the next steps include applying slip-resistant coating to the stands and completing the parking lot and lighting.
"Football will be played at Donald Gardner Stadium in the 2025 football season," said Julius Alsandor, Mayor of Opelousas.
The completion of Donald Gardner Stadium is eagerly anticipated by the Opelousas community. The stadium will not only serve as a venue for high school football games but is also expected to become a hub for local sports and events.
