BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
Defendants named in a lawsuit over the death of a three-year-old boy who was left for hours in a hot car in Birmingham are calling for it to be dismissed.
Ke'Torrius "KJ" Starkes Jr. died on July 22 of environmental hyperthermia and the manner of death was ruled an accident, according to the coroner.
A wrongful death lawsuit was filed in Jefferson County, Alabama Circuit Court on behalf of the Estate of three-year-old Starkes Jr.
Nine defendants are named , including a number of employees at the Department of Human Resources and the contract worker charged in the case Kela Stanford.
On Tuesday, attorneys representing the Starkes family shared that those nine defendants have all filed responses in court.
