JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. —

Nearly 30 headstones were vandalized at a Jeffersonville cemetery Friday night, leaving many families grieving their loved ones once again.

On Sunday morning, Jodi Hall received a picture of her grandmother's headstone knocked over at Eastern Cemetery.

"Rage. Anger? I think our crowd has heard the news about the day that she was buried, so it was just in shock and disbelief," Hall said.

In total, 27 headstones were knocked off their bases, with some vases and mementos broken or lost.

Hall expressed disbelief at the act, saying, "I don't know what would possess somebody to do this. I can't even imagine, it's lack of respect and morals as opposed to damage someone's grave. But it ripped open those wounds."

Vandalism of headstones is not common at Eastern Cemetery
