ASCENSION PARISH, La. (WAFB) - The Ascension Parish Government is warning its residents to be aware of potential scams involving someone being impersonated.

The text messages and automated phone calls went out to each resident who signed up for parish alerts.

These scams are nationwide but are getting more and more personal, with family members, loved ones, and even elected officials being impersonated.

Pamela Matassa with the Ascension Parish Government says the Parish President, Clint Cointment, was quickly prompted to inform residents about the scam after hearing reports that someone was texting parish employees pretending to be him, then asking for a favor.
