EUGENE — Oregon made three trips East last season, but none were as early as this week’s kickoff against Northwestern.

The No. 4 Ducks are heavy favorites against the Wildcats on Saturday in Evanston, and are vying to become the second of the four West Coast schools in the Big Ten to win a conference game that begins at 9 a.m. PT.

Dan Lanning’s message to the Ducks this week is being a “fire-starter.” Offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon is taking that to mean to start fast and with intensity.

“That’s how I’m thinking about preparing for such an early game like that,” Pregnon said. “When I come out on Saturday at 9 a.m., I’m punching somebody in the mouth right from the jump.”
