Dr. James Hereth , an attending physician in the medical and neuro-ICU at Buffalo General Hospital said, "Working in the medical ICU, sepsis is always on our mind. It is our body's response to a usually a severe infection. The symptoms and signs can be very subtle to start with so we're looking for fast or low heart rates, we're looking for temperature, we're looking for rapid respiratory rates, we're looking for a change in mentation. When we're able to get some more data, we're also looking for low oxygen levels as well.
