While places like Costco and Sam's Club have a reputation for checking shoppers' receipts upon exit, it's becoming more common for other California retailers to enforce receipt checks at the door.
Most recently, Ross Dress for Less, a discount retail store, rolled out a new policy to stop customers on their way out for a receipt check. Several locations throughout Northern California have signs plastered near entrances and exits that read, "We Check Receipts."
