GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - East Carolina University’s counseling center is hosting ‘Winds of Awareness’ throughout the week to raise awareness for suicide prevention.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for college students. On Tuesday, ECU counselors talked to students on the Main Campus Student Center lawn to offer support and recognition to those who have lost their loved ones to suicide.

Blue and purple pinwheels were brought alive by the breeze, each representing a nationwide college student who died by suicide each year, with people who knew the individuals placing them.

The wheels were placed for lost family, friends, and colleagues.
