SEATTLE — One year ago, 86 seniors living at Norse Home in North Seattle were told they had to move out of the affordable assisted-living facility.

Despite the closure earlier this year, former residents and community advocates continue to rally for the property’s reopening as a resource for seniors.

Joyce Jones, 95, who now lives in Northgate, said the news of having to leave Norse Home was a shock.

"We're told that we had to move and I thought that I had a home for the rest of my life," she said. Jones described the difficulty of finding a new place within her means, noting she had no money left for the upfront fees required by other facilities as all her resources went to Norse Home.
