The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a man was shot in downtown Jacksonville on Tuesday night after he stopped to give someone money, was asked to give more, and was shot when he refused.
JSO said they received a call around 3 p.m. about shots being fired near Main Street.
When officers arrived, they were unable to locate a scene or a victim. They say they later became aware of a shooting victim who was a walk-in at a nearby hospital, suffering from gunshot wounds to his left hand and chest.
They added that the man is in his 20s.
Police said they learned that the man in the hospital was driving on Duval Street and was turning on Washington Street. As he stopped at a traffic light, a man with a tattoo on his throat began asking him for money.
