The Virginia Department of Elections said Tuesday it has not yet responded to a demand from the Department of Justice to provide personal information pertaining to all of the state’s voters.
The demand from the Justice Department to Virginia Elections Commissioner Susan Beals aims to assess Virginia’s compliance with the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 and the Help America Vote Act of 2002, both of which set forward requirements for which identifying information voters must provide when they register.
13News Now received a copy of the demand letter, dated Aug. 14, through a Freedom of Information Act request.
“ELECT has not provided a response to the letter at this time as ELECT is still reviewing the request,” the Virginia Department of Elections stated as part of its response
