SEATTLE — Cardinals shortstop and Gold Glove Award favorite Masyn Winn said he intends to play through a meniscus tear in his right knee that will require surgery at the end of the season.
Winn was a last-minute scratch from Tuesday's lineup due to persisting soreness in the knee, and he has been playing through the injury for several weeks. He said after the Cardinals' 5-3 loss to the Mariners that he would require a procedure at the end of the season to address the injury.
The tear is being monitored by the Cardinals with scheduled scans of the knee, and Winn said he's been told he cannot make it worse by playing.
