Portuguese club Boavista have been left in mourning following the death of a seven-year-old academy player.
The youngster, who was part of second-tier outfit Boavista’s academy, died in hospital in the early hours of Tuesday morning after collapsing during a training session, having suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest.
Medical staff treated the seven-year-old on the pitch with a defibrillator before emergency services arrived. The boy was transported to Sao Joao Hospital in Porto, where he was in a critical condition before passing away.
