A police investigation is underway following the discovery of a man's body at Town Farm Allotments in Middlesbrough. The grim find was made on Tuesday, September 9, prompting Cleveland Police to tape off the area and deploy a forensic team in hazmat suits.
Cleveland Police confirmed that no arrests have been made as they treat the man's death as unexplained. A spokesperson stated, "Officers are currently at Town Farm allotments in the Cargo Fleet Lane area after a man’s body was found earlier today. Enquiries are in their very early stages."
The allotment site has been closed to the public, although allotment owners have been allowed access individually to tend to their animals. The police are actively conducting enquiries in the vicinity and are urging anyone with information to come forward. They can be contacted via the 101 number, quoting reference 172626, or anonymously through the charity Crimestoppers.
A significant police presence has been noted around two allotment buildings. Witnesses reported seeing officers working throughout the night, with one stating, "I was here waiting to get in around 11pm and they were all still here." Another witness mentioned that two allotments were cordoned off, indicating that police were guarding the area where the body was found and another location linked to a phone call.
As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on gathering information to determine the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
