KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Leaders of Emerald Youth Foundation hosted an open house at the foundation's Haslam-Sansom Ministry Complex in Lonsdale on Tuesday evening.
The event was the foundation's latest response to series of delays made by city councilmembers on a proposed sale of 13 acres of Chilhowee Park to the foundation. Persistent pressure by some neighbors in East Knoxville, who have demanded a more inclusive process about the potential sale, led to the delays.
Steve Diggs, the president and CEO of Emerald Youth, said the open house is the foundation's latest attempt to "get the word out" about its vision .
"This is about youth and families in our city. It's more than about land. This is about us caring for our community and caring for our young people," Diggs said.
