Housefires in two parts of the territory led to wildfires, according to Dawson City Fire and Wildland Fire Management.
A house fire in West Dawson ignited the Fox Farm Road on Sept. 4, and a structure fire in Mount Lorne ignited the Mosquito Fire on Sept. 5.
Both fires are now considered extinguished, according to Wildland Fire Management.
The territory has seen above-seasonal temperatures this September, and on Aug. 28 the Yukon government extended the wildland firefighting season into September.
Dawson City Fire Chief Mike Masserey told the News via phone that from Dawson City, he could see the plume of black smoke from the fire in West Dawson on Sept. 4.
He said that the two-storey log cabin had caught fire, as had the brush surrounding it.
“The trees that were right beside th
