NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — For the first time, Mayor LaToya Cantrell will step into federal court Wednesday to answer to criminal charges filed against her.

The arraignment is set for Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. before Magistrate Judge Karen Wells Roby. Conditions could include travel restrictions or surrendering her passport, though bond is expected to be minimal given the non-violent nature of the case.

“She’s either going to plead guilty or not guilty and if she hasn’t discussed bail through her attorneys with the prosecutor and ultimately with the judge, then they will discuss bail,” Legal analyst Cliff Cardone said.
