MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- If you’ve received a call or voicemail recently about a pre-approved loan worth thousands that you never applied for, you’re not alone.
Scammers are spamming consumers with such calls, hoping they’ll take the bait. In fact, the Federal Trade Commission just issued an alert about the problem this week.
Here’s how it works:
The call comes from an unrecognized number. The caller may begin by saying things like “you've been conditionally approved, or we have a "new offer you're approved for."
Below is an example of a scam voicemail left on my cell phone.
The caller stated, “Your personal loan is nearly approved for $63,00 on a 60-month term, which works out to about $1217 per month. We just need to confirm a couple of details before sending out the contract and before th
