LAS VEGAS — Visitors to the Las Vegas strip can now take a ride in the country’s first robotaxi service to operate in a vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals.

Zoox, owned by Amazon, operates its service using boxy, symmetrical vehicles that board passengers through sliding doors and has seats for passengers only.

“The autonomous vehicle industry has made remarkable strides this year, bringing us closer to a future of safer, more accessible mobility,” Zoox CEO Aicha Evans said in a statement Wednesday. “With the launch of our fully driverless ride-hailing service using a purposefully designed robotaxi, we’re thrilled to be part of this groundbreaking journey.”
