A teenager from Port Hope has been charged with stunt driving after a traffic stop on Highway 17.
On Sept. 1, at around 4:30 p.m., officers of the Manitoulin Detachment of the OPP were conducting general patrols on Highway 17 in the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township when they saw a motorist travelling at 165 km/hr in a 90 km/hr zone.
Police conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver.
They charged a 17-year-old driver with stunt driving, speeding more than 50 km over the posted limit and failing to surrender a driver’s licence.
The driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days, police said.
The driver is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Oct. 9.
