BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -A new nonprofit in Bryan will soon give children more opportunities to play sports and learn life skills.

On Tuesday, the Bryan City Council approved the creation of the Bryan Youth Sports Association. The program will focus on getting kids from elementary through intermediate school involved in a variety of sports before they reach junior high.

Former Texas A&M head football coach Jackie Sherrill is helping lead the effort. He said the goal is to build a strong foundation for youth athletics in Bryan. Sherrill said youth sports provide more than just athletic training.
