PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A portion of a major road in south Phoenix is closed Wednesday morning due to a serious crash.

Police responded to the reported crash around 4:50 a.m. at 19th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road .

Authorities say the SUV driver struck a semi-truck hauling concrete bridge sections. The severely damaged SUV was still at the scene, lodged under a pillar, when Arizona’s Family crews arrived.

The driver of the SUV was pulled from the vehicle and taken to the hospital with broken legs, officers at the scene told Arizona’s Family.

Lower Buckeye Road is closed east of 19th Avenue, and 19th Avenue is restricted to one lane in both directions.
