NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Officials are warning students and families that they may be targeted by scammers attempting to prey on their love.
As college picks up for the fall semester, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky is reporting an increase in a phenomenon called “emergency scams.”
“Scammers often impersonate loved ones, claiming they are in a dire situation such as an arrest, accident, or medical emergency,” a BBB press release said.
Then, they’ll ask their target for money to help bail them out of the urgent circumstance. The scams often target grandparents and are sometimes called “grandparent scams.”
