Auburn football is preparing for its final tune up ahead of a loaded SEC slate.
This week’s matchup is a game against South Alabama, an in-state opponent from the Sun Belt. Saturday will be the first time the two programs have ever met on the football field, but it continues a trend of Auburn facing other schools from Alabama in non-conference play.
“I haven’t been here that long, but I think every year we’ve played someone from in-state,” Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said during Wednesday’s SEC teleconference. “I think that’s going to continue.”
This will be the third straight season Auburn has played at least one non-conference game against an in-state team and the fourth time in the last five seasons. By comparison, Alabama hasn’t played a non-conference game against an in-state sc
