PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- During a search and rescue operation for an overdue hiker in the Columbia Gorge, authorities said a body was discovered nearby.

According to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, authorities received reports of an overdue hiker near Wiesendanger Falls.

A short while later, authorities said they received a second call about a body being recovered in the same area.

Officials said they couldn't confirm if the two cases are related, but the Medical Examiner has responded to the scene to investigate.
