The stated goal of the Yukon’s new minerals legislation that’s in the works is to create a “robust, modern regime,” according to a copy of the draft framework of the legislation.
The draft document includes an appendix that lists several “outstanding matters” that require further discussion, such as the appropriate timelines for decisions.
CBC originally requested the draft document under access-to-information law. A spokesperson for the Yukon government’s Executive Council Office told the News by email on Sept. 8 that the draft document was released in error following the access request. As such, the government refused to provide a copy to News , citing the need for First Nations engagement.
