SHREVEPORT, La. — Shreveport police say domestic violence cases are piling up. The department is handling its third major case just this week alone.

The latest happened Tuesday when police said Timothy Young held down a woman and choked her inside the Ashton Pines Apartments -- until her teenage son heard her screams.

"The 18-year-old male in this case did actually cut Mr. Young with a knife to try to get him off his mother. His mother did have some significant injuries, including bruising to her neck as well as the loss of at least one tooth," said Cpl. Chris Bordelon, SPD public information officer.

Officers arrested Young, charging him with domestic abuse battery by strangulation and domestic abuse battery with child endangerment.
