TOLEDO, Ohio — Construction outside Whitmer High School is still underway weeks into the new school year, but Washington Local Schools officials believe the project is worth the wait, as it's designed to make the campus safer for students.
Superintendent Kristie Martin said the work on Whitmer Drive has been in development for several years. With nearly 3,000 students on campus each day, the district partnered with the city of Toledo to relocate the roadway and reduce traffic hazards.
“We have 3,000 kids on campus, so that was busy, parents dropping off, kids pulling in,” Martin said. “Working with the city of Toledo, they agreed to relocate Whitmer Drive to make it safer for our kids and we’re very excited about the project.”
