SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — September is Suicide Prevention Month and West Texas Counseling and Guidance is working to reduce the number of suicides in Tom Green County by providing rapid access to mental health resources.
CEO Dusty McCoy says the organization’s process ensures that anyone who calls for an appointment receives an immediate screening.
“Anybody that calls in for any kind of appointment here will have a screening done, and if they’re at risk, they go into one of these crisis slots for rapid access to services,” McCoy said. “They’ll start working on safety planning when they first come in, cognitive behavioral therapy for suicide prevention. Then after three sessions, they’ll go into long-term care.”
