BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Most people want to lead independent lives, but sometimes physical and mental challenges get in the way of that. This sometimes forces people out of their homes or means they need more at-home assistance. But that can be costly, especially with rising healthcare costs and a shortage of workers in the industry. One state agency is working to help people maintain their independence.
With an eye on the future, the Protection and Advocacy Project (PAP) teamed up with engineering and technology company Warehouse 13 to design innovative ways for clients to maintain their independence.
Jordan Wetsel, one of the project members, said the annual cost of care for a disabled person at a state transitional center is over $560,000.
To save the state money and improve these pe
