MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis artists are receiving a boost from the city to revitalize empty retail spaces around town.

Mayor Jacob Frey announced a $750,000 investment in eight projects involving local artists and entrepreneurs.

This is the second year of the 'Vibrant Storefronts' initiative, which began as a pilot program last year. The money will be used to subsidize rent costs for participants for two years.

"Artists are the lifeblood of a city, they push us to think outside the box, they challenge our perspectives, and yes, they also just make an area look a whole lot better than it previously looked," Frey said.

Last year, five entrepreneurs received $250,000 to launch the program.
