MINNEAPOLIS — On yet another horrific day of gun violence in the United States, it's easy to lose hope.

But two weeks to the day after a shooting shook our own community, a group of doctors at Children's Minnesota is refusing to give in.

"Nothing can change if we give up," said Dr. Rachel Weigert. "You have to keep going. You have to keep the hope alive."

As a pediatric emergency physician, it's easy to understand why Dr. Weigert isn't one to lose hope, but she admits her outlook was tested like never before two weeks ago.

"Our charge nurse got the phone call from the EMS rig saying, 'We're bringing in a 10-year-old with a gunshot wound to the head,'" Weigert said, recalling the morning of the shooting at Annunciation Church . "Then she said, 'It's an active shooter and there will be
