TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order on Wednesday aiming to ban people under 21 from purchasing hemp products.

The move comes after Abbott vetoed a bill that would have banned THC products, a position advocated by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. Abbott said federal law would have prevented such a ban from going into effect.

“The governor’s taking a very surgical approach,” said Justin Roberts, an attorney at Roberts & Roberts. “This is a very minor surgical approach to tackle one issue, which is the age restriction for hemp-derived products.”
