A town employee was arrested recently by Warren Police Department officers on alleged theft charges.

During the daytime hours of Friday, Aug. 29, police took Marco Carreiro into custody following an investigation into the possible sale of stolen items belonging to the Warren Department of Public Works through an online account.

Carreiro, 43, of neighboring Swansea, Mass., is a DPW employee.

Following his arrest, Carreiro was processed and transported to Second District Court in Newport, where he was arraigned on one felony count of Embezzlement and Fraudulent Conversion. He was released on $3,000 personal recognizance and is currently suspended without pay from his DPW position.
