Ryanair has pointed the finger at Spanish airport operator AENA for increasing its fees, leading to a significant reduction in the airline's services.

The budget carrier announced it had cut around 600,000 seats to and from mainland Spain and approximately 400,000 seats to and from the Canary Islands.

Additionally, Ryanair has shut down its two-aircraft base in Santiago, situated in northwest Spain, and suspended all flights to Vigo and Tenerife North this winter.

Eddie Wilson, Ryanair's chief executive, criticised AENA's decision to increase airport charges by 6.62%, describing it as "excessive" and suggesting that the operator is solely focused on maximising profits.
