LAND O' LAKES, Fla. — A woman in Land O' Lakes is recovering tonight from a nasty bite after she saved her puppy from an alligator in her backyard.

Danie Wright said even though the gator was young, it was fierce and now wants to spread a warning to dog lovers.

Four-month-old Dax probably has no idea his owner saved his life. Last week, Wright took Dax behind her house and walked along a stagnant creek covered in watermoss, giving perfect cover for a predator.

“I heard a squeal, and I got pulled,” she said. “The alligator had him by his [collar] and dragged him, and I wasn't gonna let go.”

She said an alligator bit just Dax's collar and dragged him into the water. Then, Wright fought back.
