CHICAGO (WLS) -- Here's a quick tip on fake phone numbers.
Scammers are tricking people looking for help. The Better Business Bureau says fake customer service numbers are popping up online and when you call, you may be giving money straight to a criminal.
These imposters often sound friendly and professional, but victims have lost thousands after handing over remote access to their computers or making "urgent" payments.
Don't click the first number you see in a search.
Always go to the official company website for contact information.
Never allow remote access to your computer and hang up if someone demands an immediate payment.
You can also double check numbers online by searching the phone number with the word "scam" to see if others have reported it.
