OROVILLE — After some discussion regarding filling a vacancy on the Vina Groundwater Sustainability board of directors, a vacancy that’s been open since Aug. 1, the Butte County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to hold off before selecting a permanent replacement.

A committee was formed to solicit, interview and recommend a replacement and, on Tuesday, Jim Graydon was presented as the preferred choice from the committee. Had he been selected, Graydon would have served on the board as a representative of domestic well users for a term that lasts until Oct. 10, 2027.

Supervisors Tami Ritter and Peter Durfee asked questions regarding the process by which a new board member is selected, both noting that the alternate was not considered during the selection.
